Back to School Fair
After 6 amazing years, we’ve made the difficult decision to bring our Back to School Fair to a close. This event has grown beyond anything we imagined, and while we’re proud of the impact it’s made, it’s become harder each year to secure the space and resources needed to keep it going.
We’ve outgrown our location at Valley Center Intermediate School, and unfortunately, we don’t have the capacity to move the clothing and supplies elsewhere—or ask our incredible volunteers to take on even more.
But this is not goodbye! We’re still here—and always will be. Our Hornets' Hanger clothing closet and Hornets' Holidays program are still going strong, and we’re committed to supporting local students and families throughout the year. If you or someone you know has a need, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re not going anywhere.
We also want to share that Hope Valley Center, hosted by LifePoint Church at the high school, is expanding their back-to-school event to a walk-on model very similar to ours. After talking with their team and exploring ways to partner, we believe they’re best equipped to serve a growing number of families with a wider range of services. We encourage you to support their efforts if you're looking for a new way to get involved.
To everyone who’s donated, volunteered, or helped spread the word over the years—thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You’ve helped hundreds of students start their school year with confidence and care.
With love,
From the Ground Up Nonprofit
Back to School Fair 2025 - CANCELED
Filling backpacks and fostering community since 2019
The Back to School Fair began as an idea to help celebrate the opening of the Hornets' Hanger clothing closet. A handful of individuals brainstormed ideas for an event beyond their wildest dreams. Held annually on the first Saturday in August the event has grown into a true picture of what happens when a community shows up for its students.
Through generous donations, partnerships and our amazing volunteers, the back to school fair is able to help provide families with items to get them ready for the year at no cost to them. Including:
Onsite Haircuts/Haircut Vouchers
Sports Physicals
Access to Hornets' Hanger for Clothing and Shoes
School Supplies and Backpacks
Information from other community programs
In 2022 a Sensory Sensitive hour was added to the beginning of the event to help families who have children with a sensory processing disorder. With accommodations like softer lighting, no music, reduced crowds, and special staff, we hoped to make the event more accessible for everyone.
